Typography Tales: the story behind two new shirts…

When Greg and I merged households, one of my early projects was creating a new picture wall that represented both of our families…his boys, my son, our lives together. I decided to go bold (for me) and finish off the little collection with a typography print I found on etsy from an artist in the Czech Republic.

{Its resting spot at our place. And yes, Buddha is wearing red holly berries for the holidays. I don't think he minds.}

I walk past this print every day and it truly does make me happy when skies are gray. I love knowing that an artist on the other side of the world made this little lovely to sum up how I feel about all those boys on the wall.

Life inspires art, but for me it is often the opposite. I am so inspired by what these genius artists create and I wonder how I can translate it into real life. So of course, I wanted to take the simple happiness of this poster and turn it into a running shirt. After all, how better to describe the run than basic typography…it’s not fussy or complicated, in fact it’s quite obvious, and yet it can fill you with a rainbow joy like not much else.

And so, we made ‘Just Run’, because the run is not always happy. It’s good, bad, up, and down…but if you can drag yourself our there the ends almost always justify the means.

And then, we made ‘Work It’, because as winter sets in I find myself staring in the mirror at the gym looking for a little inspiration. This seemed like the perfect peppy anthem shirt for lifting weights, planks, and push-ups.

I think there must be something a little magical about typography. Over the last few days, every time I walk past the new shirts waiting patiently in their bags to be uploaded to the site and shipped off to their homes, I catch a glimpse of their colorful verse and I just can’t help but smile. An instant uplift.

I sincerely hope these new performance tees will bring you the same joy.
